Special Projects
Ruta La Paz, a 5km & 10km road race held annually in late November in Tamarindo, Guanacaste, Costa Rica attracts over 500 participants from local villages, San Jose, and around the world. The mission of the event is to unite the community through a healthy and enjoyable sporting event to raise funds for local scholarships at La Paz Community School.
Pura Verde is an integrated student-led project designed to promote positive change in Guanacaste by spreading awareness about the harmful effects of plastic bags while providing durable recyclable reusable bags to the community. La Paz students quickly discovered that plastic bags are using a tremendous amount of our earth’s natural resources, polluting our local and world environment in many ways, and harming our precious marine life. We were also shocked to learn how many plastic bags are being consumed, not only worldwide, but right here in Guanacaste. La Paz students decided that something needed to be done!
The Pura Verde Reusable Bags are available for c3,000 at La Paz Community School and Super Massai in Flamingo. All proceeds go towards the La Paz Scholarship Fund. Any questions or comments? Email La Paz students directly at puraverde@lapazschool.org.
