La Paz Community School Scholarship Program

History: Since 2007, the La Paz Community School Scholarship program has socially invested in offering an inclusive, accessible, high quality 21st century education to nearly 100 students (including 23 graduates), their families, and their communities.

Funding: The program is entirely donor funded because La Paz tuition does not cover the annual operating costs of approximately $700,000 between the two schools.  All scholarship families pay an average of approximately 10-15% of the school fees and the scholarships awarded range from 5% to 50% depending on identified financial need.

Inputs: The scholarship program requires a significant amount of specialized resources in order to ensure an equitable learning environment for the students. These resources are including but not limited to the following:

  1. Transportation to and from school as well as field trips and extracurricular activities
  2. Site based scholarship coordinators to ensure that academic, socioemotional, and familiar needs are met
  3. Home visits to understand the needs of each family are being met and there is a supportive learning environment
  4. Workshops to teach skills in parenting, positive discipline, relationships, sexual abuse prevention, and technology management
  5. Special services including but not limited to psychoeducational and socioemotional support
  6. Extracurricular programs to offer enrichment experiences beyond the daily curriculum
  7. Connectivity in the household to make learning accessible during after school hours.

How do we measure our success? Changes in social capital happen across generations, so our primary evidence for success comes from our graduate scholarship students themselves and family testimonies.
